We have had a busy week, starting a new unit in reading, writing, and math.
In reading we are moving back to fiction books with a focus on reading fluently. Today we practiced making our voices match what is happening to the characters in the story.
Writing time is for poetry! This creative group of kids is enjoying reading and writing poetry. We started the unit by brainstorming ideas to write about and practicing looking at every day objects with a "Poet's eye". The stapler became an alligator leaving teeth marks on a paper, and an eraser became a piece of gum for a mouse.
In math we started our unit on shapes, partitioning, and telling time. We have learned about the attributes of a triangle, quadrilateral (square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid) and pentagon. Next week we will learn about hexagons and octagons. We have been making the shapes using geoboards and bands, and we went on a hunt outside to find shapes on the playground.
