We have been staying warm even though it is freezing outside! Please send in snow boots, gloves, and snow pants if your child wants to play in the snow at recess. We do not go outside when it is very cold.
This week in writing we continued to work on poetry and trying out different techniques such as writing about feelings, using lines breaks, and trying repetition. The class continues to do an amazing job with this unit. We will start publishing some of our favorite poems next week. Take a look at your child's poetry notebook when they bring it home.
In reading we are working with fiction and using Post It notes to keep track of our reading. We have started jotting notes about the characters in order to keep them straight and to notice character traits. We have also been on the look out for literary language - times when authors use similes, metaphors, and comparisons to enhance the text.
We are wrapping up unit 3 in math and will take the assessment next week. This unit has covered shapes, telling time to the hour, pictographs, and using number lines to solve problems.
We are going to a concert on Wednesday, December 20, to the High School. This is always an enjoyable trip in which we get to listen to the chorus and band play. Please return the permission slip ASAP if you haven't already.
Wednesday afternoon we invite families in at 2:15 in the cafeteria to make a snowman craft. We will go back to our classroom at 2:45 for a holiday party. Thank you to the room parents for organizing the party.
Don't forget that there is an early dismissal on Friday, December 22.
