We have been hard at work during Project Lead The Way learning about properties of matter, and conductors and insulators. As a final project, students used the design process to ask, explore, model, evaluate and explain. They were presented with a problem of how to keep an ice pop frozen without a freezer. Check out the pictures below to see their designs.

We had a wonderful afternoon at the HES Halloween parade! The kids were so excited to dress up and show off their costumes! I would like to thank the room parents for organizing the treats and activities and the families that were able to join us in the classroom to continue the celebration. These are the wonderful days that our kiddos will remember forever!
October is Fire Safety month. Last Thursday, we were lucky enough to have the Haddam Fire Dept. visit HES to teach us about fire safety. We also got to tour the fire truck and learn about some very important tools.
This morning, we worked hard to create pictures for those affected by the hurricane in Puerto Rico. Students created cheerful images to brighten the days of those who are still dealing with issues from the hurricane. The pictures will be sent down in care packages that will be delivered by a local resident traveling down to offer assistance.
I am attaching a link for a great math website called " Greg Tang Math". This site has a selection of games that really help with foundational math skills and works all the way up through some pretty challenging skills as well. Have fun playing!
Greg Tang Math gregtangmath.com/games We have made it through our first bend in reading workshop. We have talked about the ways that 2nd grade readers grow. Take a look at our anchor chart and our stop and jot chart below:
Thank you to all the families that attended curriculum night. It was wonderful to chat with you and share some of our 2nd grade expectations. If you were unable to attend, I have posted the file to the curriculum night presentation. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Also, if you were unable to attend, please email me to set up a fall conference time at [email protected].
We have had a busy first week! We are getting into the swing of our reading, writing, and math workshops. We have also launched our first FUNdations unit. Earlier in the week, we talked about how we wanted our classroom to run and we worked together to create our PAWS laws. The students offered ideas and we decided as a class which ones we wanted to help us to our best in our classroom. Take a peek below at what we decided on:
