We have been learning about the first Thanksgiving and being thankful here in room 3. We have read 2 books that taught us about a day in the life of a pilgrim boy and girl. We have learned about what pilgrim and native american children would have worn, ate, and done for chores and for fun. Most importantly, we have been filling the walls of HES with things we are thankful for!
We had a wonderful time on our field trip to Bushy Hill Nature Center. The students really enjoyed their visit and I was so proud of the respect they showed! We visited 4 stations to learn about how Native Americans would have lived. The stations were archery, visiting a tipi, learning how to build a shelter, and turning llama fur into felt. Students even created felted soaps that can be used at home. Don't be alarmed when you see a plastic bag with fur inside. Simply remove it from the bag and let it dry. The felted soap can be used at home in the shower or for hand washing.. just make sure to dry it after each use.
This week in PLTW, we tested our designs to see if they could solve the problem of keeping an ice pop cold. After testing the design, we created a Popplet on the iPad to share our work. Then we presented our work to the class and shared different strengths and weaknesses of the design. We also talked about what changes we would make if we wanted to make a "next version".
