November is Hard Work month! The students in room 3 have been learning all about hard work and what that means. We have talked about pushing ourselves past the point of "I'm stuck" or "I don't know" or "I want to stop". When we push past those barriers we enter the zone of hard work! This is where we feel the greatest successes and where we can be proud of our efforts. This week I have included some pictures from the zone of hard work! Enjoy!

What a great way to end an exciting week! Room 3 has earned the golden spoon for the 5th time this year! Way to go...

It was a busy week with the Veterans Day assembly, lots of learning, and our cultural arts assembly on Friday. In reading we have continued to focus on informational reading. Students are learning to search for expert lingo and use text features to help figure out what the word means. In writing, we have been finishing up some nonfiction writing. We learned about ways to end our stories this week without leaving the reader hanging. In math we have been hard at work learning about skip counting and identifying coins. It can be really helpful to provide students with time at home to experience using real coins. It helps them to really gain a better understanding for being able to identify them and tell their value.

Wow! We have had a lot of fun this week! We especially loved learning about the Native Americans at Bushy Hill Nature Center. We learned about shelter building, wigwams, tipis, and archery. We would like to say a special thank you to all the family members that were able to join us for the trip!

In reading, we have been working on anticipating the new lingo that expert writers use when they teach us about an informational topic. We also talked about using test features like a glossary when we don't know that that new lingo means. 

In writing, we have continued to work on our teaching books. We talked about the importance of answering all the readers questions and expanding our thinking by saying more.

In math, we continue to study place value. We have worked on skip counting and numbers that come before, after and in between. 

In other exciting news... our class earned the golden spoon the the FOURTH time!! Keep up the good work room 3!
