We had LOTS of fun today! We have been learning about place value is math- so, today we used what we knew about place value to help us uncover a mystery picture in a hundreds chart. Look at the picture below... can you see the mystery picture? We also created spooky spiders to help us remember our math facts to 20. We had a great time at the HES parade and enjoyed some fun activities and delicious treats back in the classroom. Happy Halloween:)
The second graders in room 3 have been busy! We earned the golden spoon for a 3rd time and we are up to 8 PAWS for recess! We continue to work on being role models and showing the HES way.
In reading, we have been working on informational texts. We have talked about how readers pay attention to many details in the text and try to put those details together to help grow our understanding. In writing, we have launched our unit on informational writing. The students have selected topics they are experts on, planned their story using a table of contents, created an engaging beginning, and are working to teach the reader about their topic. On Friday, we had our first writing celebration from our Narrative unit. See the pictures below. We shared our books with other 2nd grade authors and looked for things we loved and gave compliments to other authors. In math, we have started our unit on place value. We are using place value blocks to show numbers with 3 digits. We have also learned about regrouping ones and tens. In Writing workshop, we are finishing up our first unit. We have used a student checklist to help edit and revise our writing. We are also publishing our stories on our Google Drive. |
